What’s on in term 4?

Closing Down of College Street School Celebrations:

(1)          Would you like to join us on the Otago Excursion Train on  Thursday 17th November?

We have booked the Excursion train for the whole day (Thursday 17th November) to take us to Middlemarch. Macandrew Intermediate students are also joining us, although Calton Hill School has now pulled out.

There is no charge for our children.

Would you like to join us? There will be a cost, per adult, of $20. With Calton Hill’s withdrawal we now have plenty of seats – if you would like to book a ticket, please give Jimmi a ring at school.

For health and safety reasons we cannot allow pre-schoolers to accompany us.

The organisation:-

  • Buses will take us to the railway station and they will be leaving school at 9.00am sharp!!
  • Our train is leaving at 9.30am.
  • We are going to Middlemarch where we will have 90 minutes for lunch, walks, games.

The train is due to be back in Dunedin at 4pm where we have planned for buses to bring us back to school. You have the option of collecting your child from the railway station at approximately 4pm or school at 4.15pm.

(2)          School DISCO, Thursday 17th November     6.00-7.30pm

Put it in your diary. Our parent Celebrations Committee is, in the main, running the event and if you would like to offer your help, do give Abbey and Hunter’s Mum – Helen Crawford -  a call on 455 8281 or an email at: crawfscrew@xtra.co.nz.  A DJ has been organised for the evening.

(3)         A big change to our earlier plans for Friday 18th November, our plans now include:

For reasons beyond our control and relating to finances, we have had to cancel the marquee and the Saturday evening function that we have previously advertised for Saturday 19th.

For your diary -   Friday 18th November:

1.00-3.00pm  school open to the public. Classrooms “up and running’. Student guides will be available to show people around our school. Historical pictures and documents will be up for viewing.

5.30-7.30pm   school open to the public. Classrooms “up and running’. Student guides available.

5.30pm        spit roast, games, candy floss and bouncy castle.

There will be a “gold coin donation” for the roast. You are encouraged to bring your own liquid refreshments and your “running shoes” to enable you to join in games!!

(4)       Final farewell to our students assembly, in our hall, Friday 2nd December

This is our traditional Year 6 leavers assembly, however this time we are hoping that our Year 6’s will be joining us at the new school so we have modified our focus – this assembly will be a farewell to all of our students, as College Street kids.

Starting time is 1pm, finishing before 3pm.

We will be doing our traditional awards, plus singing and we have presentations to give to each of our students.

(5)       Final farewell to our community. Two shows – Thursday 8th December – at the Kings / Queens auditorium, Bayview Road.         1.30pm and 7.00pm

Because of fire regulations we need to keep control over numbers attending these two shows. Therefore entry will only be by ticket, which are available through Jimmi. There is no cost for the tickets.

We have planned for the shows to be 90 minutes in duration, i.e. finishing at 3.pm and 8.30pm.

(6) Final day for College Street School.

Some parents have indicated that their children will be finishing on Friday 9th December and that is fine – do ensure we know that is your intention as we do not want to worry where your child is!  We have a programme planned for the week 12th to 16th of December – but more about that later

Monday 12th

  • Exploring the ‘tunnel’ under the hall.  Some children have expressed a desire to have a look under the hall and Alister has offered to escort small groups down to have a look at our excavations!                                     If you would like your child to take up this invitation, could they bring some clothing they could change into to school on Monday. It is very dirty down there!!

Tuesday 13th

  • 9.15-10.30am   Bible in Schools Christmas service at the Caversham Presbyterian Church for Rooms 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Wednesday 14th

·         Bring your swimming togs to school. At 9.30am the doors will be locked as we all quietly walk down to St Clair for a swim in the salt water Pool. (We are booked in between 11.00 and 12noon). We will have our lunch down at the beach, construct some sand castles prior to walking back to school and be back at school by 3pm.  If you would like to join us, you are most welcome.

Thursday 15th

  • Talent Quest.  Starting at 9.30am in the hall, we have a full show planned. There’s song and dance, guitar, gymnastics, jokes, piano, inventions – all in all there are 26 items!  Again, if you want to join us, you are most welcome.
  • Last day for After school Care

Friday 16th

·         Final bell being rung at 12.30pm.  Start of the summer holiday break.
